Why does nobody talk about using a bone folder for rounding spines?

I always thought it was just a fancy, extra tool until I tried one on a leather-bound journal project last week. The control it gave me over the shape was way better than using my fingers, and I didn't get any of those little creases. Anyone have a favorite brand or a different method they like better?

Noticed the same thing with a lot of specialized tools. We tend to use our hands or whatever's nearby because it's faster, but the right tool actually saves time and frustration in the end. My bone folder is just a basic one from the craft store, but it made lining envelopes so much cleaner. What kind of leather were you working with?

Totally agree about the right tool. Was trying to crease some thick veg tan for a wallet. Fingers just left a mushy line, but a cheap scoring tool from the hardware aisle gave a sharp, clean fold. That basic bone folder sounds perfect for paper. Makes you wonder how many projects we've messed up just by being stubborn.

Wait, people actually use their bare fingers for rounding spines?
