Am I the only one who didn't realize succulents need way less water than I thought?

I killed 3 pretty nice echeverias before I noticed the leaves were getting mushy and clear, not dry and wrinkled. Caught it when a friend pointed out my soil was soaked and the pot had no drainage hole at all. Anyone else figure this out the hard way?

Does that mean I should check if the pot has a hole before buying it?

Hey @lee627, you ever bought a pot without checking and watched water pool around your plant's roots? Yeah just flip it over and look for a drainage hole, or poke one yourself with a drill if you're feeling handy.
