Got roasted for over-pruning my roses, now I'm too scared to touch them
Last spring my neighbor Linda, who grows prize dahlias over in Spokane, watched me hack back my roses and said 'you're not pruning, you're committing shrubbery homicide.' She showed me how to cut at 45 degree angles above the outward node and leave at least 12 inches of cane. Now I second guess every snip, but honestly the bushes bloomed twice as much this July. Anyone else get hit with harsh plant feedback that made them change their whole routine, or do you just keep doing your own thing?

Heard Linda's advice but honestly my roses do fine with aggressive cuts too.
