Heard a kid at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden call a fern a 'big leaf plant' and it stuck with me
Last Saturday I was standing near the fern house at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and a kid pointed at a staghorn and told his mom it was just a big leaf plant. I started to correct him, then realized 20 years ago I would have said the same thing before I learned fronds are their own whole thing. How do you explain ferns to someone without sounding like a know it all?
