I compared self watering pots vs standard ones for my succulents and the difference was huge

Had a bunch of succulents dying on me over the last 6 months. I kept thinking I was overwatering or something. Finally grabbed 4 self watering pots from the hardware store in town for 12 bucks each. Put my two struggling echeverias in them and left the rest in regular terra cotta. The ones in the self watering pots grew double the roots in just 3 weeks. The regular ones still look sad. Anyone else had better luck with one type over the other?

Hang on, did you check the drainage holes on those self watering pots? I noticed some brands use a plastic grid that traps fine roots. They can't push through. Ends up strangling the plant. My string of pearls did great until the roots hit that barrier. Then it just stalled out. Might be why your echeverias are taking off - maybe the root system just hasn't hit that wall yet.

Oh man @blake_cooper you totally nailed it, I had the same nightmare with a peace lily in one of those pots.
