I thought my new Monstera was just being dramatic but it took me a full month to realize the tap water in my building was the real problem.

I was about to give up after trying filtered water, a new spot, and a different fertilizer, but switching to distilled water for two weeks finally got it to push out a new leaf.

Honestly that sounds like a huge hassle for one plant. My monsteras have always done fine with regular tap water, even in hard water areas. You might have just had a weak plant to begin with.

My first monstera got those brown tips too until I switched to filtered water.

I had the exact same problem with my philodendron last year, not monstera but close. I was using regular tap water from my kitchen sink and the tips would turn brown and crispy every time no matter what. So I switched to just letting my water sit out in a jug for 24 hours before I use it. That lets the chlorine evaporate out and it helped so much. I don't even bother with filtered water or buying special bottles, just a cheap pitcher on my counter. Now my plant has three new leaves popping out and no more brown tips at all.
