Just realized I was wrong about talking to my plants
For years, I'd chat with my indoor jungle every morning, thinking it helped them grow. Then last fall, I read a study from the University of Florida that found no real proof it does anything. I felt a bit silly, so I stopped and focused on getting their light and water perfect instead. Honestly, my fiddle leaf fig looks better now than it ever did when I was talking to it. Has anyone else given up on a plant care habit they thought was essential?

That Florida study is a whole mood. I see this with skincare routines all the time. People will buy a ten step system because it feels like they're doing something important, but then their skin gets worse from all the product. They cut back to just a gentle cleanser and moisturizer, and suddenly their face is clear. Sometimes the extra thing we think is helping is just noise.

My entire life is just adding steps to fix problems I created with other steps.

Read a piece about how the carbon dioxide from your breath when you talk to plants might give a tiny boost, but it's basically nothing compared to just opening a window. The real benefit seemed to be that people who talk to their plants are just paying more attention to them, so they notice problems sooner. Makes total sense that your fig is thriving now that you're focused on the actual important stuff.
