My monstera was drowning in a pot that looked dry on top, so I tried the chopstick trick
I stuck a wooden chopstick 3 inches down before watering and it came out soaked, even though the top inch felt bone dry. Turns out I'd been watering every 5 days for 2 months and the roots were sitting in mud, so now I check with the stick and water maybe every 10 days. Anyone else nearly kill a plant by trusting the surface soil?
