My orchid finally sprouted a new leaf after eight months of nothing
Got this phalaenopsis as a gift last fall. It dropped its old blooms and just sat there. I tried moving it to different windows, adjusting my watering schedule, everything. Finally put it on a humidity tray with some pebbles near the kitchen sink. Saw a tiny green nub this morning. Anyone else have a plant that just decided to take a really long break?

Honestly used to think orchids were just fancy decorations that died quick. Had one sit completely still for almost a year, no growth, nothing. Figured it was a lost cause. Then it shot up a new spike out of nowhere. They really do just go dormant and take their sweet time. Your humidity tray trick sounds like it finally gave it the hint.

Totally get what @the_thomas means about them taking their sweet time. I had a phalaenopsis that did nothing for over a year, then put out two new leaves and a spike in like a month. Sometimes they just need to feel that steady humidity to kick back into gear.

Totally changed how I see orchids now. I always assumed they were just being dramatic when they stopped growing. Hearing yours came back after a full year of nothing is wild. Makes me want to go check on the one I shoved in a corner last fall. What kind of orchid was it that finally spiked for you?
