PSA: My cactus finally bloomed after a five year wait

I've had this cactus sitting on my windowsill since I got it as a tiny plant. It just put out its first flower this week, which felt like forever. Do some plants really need that much time before they show any color?

Oh wow, that's amazing! I had a cactus that took forever to flower too, and I learned they really do just have their own clock. Some types, like certain night-blooming ones, won't flower until they're super mature, and no amount of extra water or plant food speeds it up. It's kind of like what @scott.william said, you just have to provide the right basics and then wait it out. My advice is just keep doing what you're doing, because that flower proves you got the light and care right all along.

Yeah that "five year wait" thing hits home. I've noticed a lot of stuff, like plants or even big projects, just operate on their own slow schedule no matter how much you rush them. Your cactus is a good reminder that some things can't be forced.

It's wild how much that applies to life stuff too, like learning a skill or even saving up for something. Nature's schedule doesn't care about our impatience, it just does its thing.
