That whole 'talking to your plants' thing is overdone

I get it, people say chatting with your ficus helps it grow. But I swear half the folks in this group treat their houseplants like they're in a therapy session and skip the real stuff. Last week I saw a post where someone spent 20 minutes a day whispering affirmations to a droopy peace lily, but the pot had no drainage holes. That plant was drowning, lmao. I run a tree service and I've learned that trees don't care about your kind words. They care about soil pH, water schedule, and getting enough light. I'm not saying talking is useless, but if you're cooing at your Monstera while it sits in a dark corner with root rot, you're missing the point. Why does everyone focus on the cute stuff instead of the boring basics like proper potting mix or checking for pests first? Has anyone else noticed this trend getting way out of hand?

Wait, so you're telling me my daily pep talk to my spider plant isn't what's keeping it alive? Lmao next thing you'll say is that singing to my succulents doesn't help them push out more babies. But fr I've seen so many posts where people are basically therapists to their plants while the leaves are literally turning yellow from overwatering. It's like folks want the aesthetic of being a plant parent without reading a single care tag.

The "therapist to their plants" part got me. People really do treat plants like they're some kind of emotional support pet that just needs a pep talk to survive. Meanwhile the roots are literally rotting in a swamp because they think "love" equals dumping a glass of water on it every morning. I've seen someone post a picture of a monstera with leaves so yellow they looked like a banana, and the caption was all about how they speak to it every day and read it poetry. Read the room, and the care tag. Plants need drainage, proper light, and the right amount of water, not a motivational speech. If you're going to have a plant, at least google the basics instead of giving it a personality and a name before you bother learning what overwatering looks like.
