Update: my $180 grow light died on day 12 and took 6 seedlings with it
I set up a small indoor shelf for seed starting back in early March, spent $180 on a full spectrum LED bar that had good reviews, and figured I was done. Twelve days later I came home from work and the whole bar was dead, no fan noise, no light, nothing. Six tomato seedlings and four pepper starts had already gone pale and leggy trying to reach a window across the room, and three of them never came back. I checked the outlet first, then the timer, then unplugged it and found the driver brick was hot enough that I did not want to hold it. Turns out the thing had no thermal cutoff and the cheap driver just cooked itself in my 78 degree laundry room. I moved the survivors under a plain shop light with a 5000K bulb, which cost me $22 at the hardware store, and honestly they look better now than they did under the fancy bar. Has anyone else had a driver fail like that, and is there a brand or build style that actually holds up past one season?
