A client told me my logo looked like a clip art and I was mad at first

I spent 3 weeks on a brand refresh for a local restaurant in Nashville and the owner said my logo felt like something you'd find in a free template. At first I was defensive but then I looked at it again and he was right, I had played it too safe. Has anyone else had a client call you out on something that actually made your work better?

Client called me out, I redesigned it for free, and they ended up using it for 3 years.

Honestly, heard a friend did that once and the guy tipped extra just for the joke.
