Vent: the vendor at the Phoenix flea market called our booth sign "wallpaper" and it stung
I was helping my sister run her candle booth at the flea market in Phoenix last month, and this older guy who sells leather belts walked past our table three times before stopping. He pointed at our big banner with the logo and said "that thing reads like wallpaper, honey, nobody knows what you sell." I got kind of defensive at first because my sister paid $180 for that banner from a print place online. But then I watched people walk by for the next hour and he was not wrong, not one person stopped to look at the sign. We scribbled "hand poured soy candles, $12" on a piece of cardboard with a Sharpie and stuck it under the banner. Six people stopped in the next 40 minutes, and we sold 9 candles that day versus 2 the day before. So now I keep wondering how many small booths are out there with pretty signs that say nothing at all, has anyone else gotten called out like that by a stranger at a market?
