Wasted $150 on a brand that promised 'heritage' but delivered cheap labels

I run a small craft soap business and figured I needed a more 'heritage' looking brand to sell at local markets here in Portland. Found this company online that claimed their labels were made with old-style letterpress and premium paper. Spent $150 on 500 labels. They arrived looking like they were printed on a $20 home printer, all smudgy and the colors were totally off. Turns out they just imported cheap stickers from overseas and slapped a fancy story on their website. I had to toss the whole batch and reorder from a local printer I should have used from the start. Anyone else get burned by a brand that talked a big game but couldn't deliver on quality?

Did you catch that article in the Journal about how these heritage brands are just repackaging cheap Chinese goods? I read it a few weeks back and it basically said a bunch of these companies are just drop-shipping stickers and paper products while spinning some story about old world craftsmanship. Your situation sounds exactly like that. Those "letterpress" labels are probably just a digital print over a slightly textured finish. It's a bummer because it makes it harder to trust anyone who talks about "heritage" or "premium" on their website now.

Every grocery store does the same thing with "artisan" bread that's just frozen dough, @white.seth.
