A guy at a flea market in Ohio taught me to fix old radios and it turned into my weirdest hobby
I was at the Springfield flea market about 6 months ago and bought a broken 1962 Zenith radio for $8 just because it looked cool. An older guy named Walt was running the booth next to the seller and he leaned over and showed me the tube was dead, not the whole radio. He spent maybe 20 minutes explaining how old tube radios work and I went home and ordered a $12 tube online. That was the start of me fixing and collecting old radios, which I never thought I would care about at all. My wife thinks I am nuts because there are now 7 radios on a shelf in the garage. Walt is still at that flea market most weekends and calls me "the radio kid" even though I am 41. Curious if anyone else got sucked into a hobby because of one random person at a flea market or yard sale.
