After 200 hours of mini bonsai, I finally get why people do this

I used to think wiring tiny trees was pointless until a 3 inch juniper I'd nearly given up on survived a 2 week heat wave in Phoenix and I caught myself checking on it before my own coffee. That little tree beat the odds and suddenly I cared about every leaf, so what was the moment that changed your mind about a hobby you'd written off?

You said "before my own coffee," and I have to gently point out that's not really unusual. People who keep bonsai often find the trees become a morning ritual, which is part of the appeal. The real change happens when you stop seeing it as a plant and start seeing it as a tiny stubborn friend.
