Found a guy at the dump who reconditions vintage espresso machines

I was dropping off old paint cans at the county waste center in Flagstaff and this older dude pulls out a beat up La Pavoni from his trunk, started talking about replacing the heating element himself. Turns out he restores these things as a side gig, showed me how he chromes the brass boiler shells in his garage for like 80 bucks a pop. Anyone else run into random experts at weird places who got you hooked on a niche hobby?

Pretty sure that Portland guy was just rebuilding a '70s Honda CB, not looking for a Ferrari.
