Found out mushroom spores can survive in space. Like actual space.

Was reading a random mycology forum last night. Turns out some spores made it through vacuum and radiation on the outside of the ISS. They were still alive after 18 months. Now I really want to try growing a batch from a sample kit I got off Etsy. Has anyone here tried cultivating exotic species before?

Read something similar a while back about bacteria surviving on the outside of satellites too. It's wild how tough some of these little things are. Sure, go for it with the Etsy kit, just dont be surprised if it takes off in a weird way. I tried growing some oyster mushrooms once and it was super easy, just keep them warm and damp lol.

Oh man, the bacteria on satellites thing is crazy right? Like, space is basically the worst place to live and those little guys are just chilling up there. I get what you mean about things taking off in a weird way too, I had a kombucha scoby go totally rogue on me once and it was a mess. But that oyster mushroom story made me smile, it's so nice when something actually works out easy like that. It's reassuring to hear someone else has had simple successes with this stuff, makes me feel less like I'm gonna screw it up.
