My barber said something about my straight razor that stuck with me

I was getting a haircut last Tuesday and my barber, Dave, mentioned he sharpens his own razors every Sunday. He said most people treat tools like they're disposable, but taking 15 minutes to care for them changes everything. It made me think about all the stuff I just use up and toss without a second thought. He handed me a cheap old strop he had in his drawer and told me to try it on my kitchen knives. Has anyone else gotten into restoring or maintaining old tools from random conversations?

That "taking 15 minutes to care for them changes everything" line really hits home, but why do you think we're so quick to throw things out instead?

Read somewhere that companies design stuff to be disposable on purpose sadly.
