My first attempt at miniature bookbinding was a disaster

I spent all last Tuesday trying to make a tiny leather-bound book for my dollhouse library, using a 0.5 millimeter awl from Hobby Lobby. The spine split right down the middle after I glued it, and now I have 15 little pages scattered across my kitchen table. Has anyone else had trouble with that cheap PVA glue scalding the paper edges?

Once glued a book shut so bad I had to chisel it open with a butter knife.

Next time skip the PVA and try wheat paste.
