My third lockpick set finally beat the $80 one I started with

Bought a cheap $25 set from Amazon last March and struggled for weeks. Then tried a $80 set my buddy swore by. Still couldn't open a basic padlock. Last month I got a $40 set with thinner picks and better handles. First try, popped that same padlock in under 10 minutes. The difference was the handle shape and how the tension wrench fit, not the price. Has anyone else found that mid-range gear beats both budget and premium for their grip size?
