My uncle told me to dry my herbs in the microwave. What a disaster.
He swore it worked for him, said 30 seconds on low power would do it. I tried it with a bunch of basil from my garden last Sunday and ended up with a black, smoking mess that smelled like burnt grass. My whole kitchen reeked for hours. Has anyone actually gotten this method to work, or is my uncle just messing with me?

I mean, maybe the issue isn't the microwave itself but the wattage. Your uncle's old microwave might have been a weak one, and your new one probably cranks out way more power. 30 seconds in a 1200 watt unit is basically a flamethrower.

My old microwave was a 700 watt beater that took three years to heat up a cup of soup. I finally upgraded to a 1200 watt model and almost melted my coffee mug on the first day. So yeah, @hill.david, you're dead on about the flamethrower thing. I learned that the hard way with a bag of popcorn that turned into a smoke detector test.
