My yard sale stopwatch is finally keeping accurate time after 3 months
Picked up a cheap mechanical stopwatch at a yard sale in Portland for 4 dollars and it always ran fast, like 10 seconds off every minute. Tried cleaning the balance wheel with lighter fluid but that just made it worse. Yesterday I noticed the hairspring was catching on the regulator pin, so I nudged it with a toothpick and now it's within a second after 12 hours. Anyone else fixed a cheap timepiece with just a toothpick and patience? Also, what's the worst thing you've bought for a hobby that turned out to be a bigger project than the hobby itself?
