The moment my ukulele playing actually sounded like music instead of dying cats
I've been struggling with a cheap ukulele for about 6 months (a $40 Kala from Amazon). Last week I finally figured out that I was pressing the strings way too hard on the frets, like I was trying to choke them. A guy at a local open mic night in Portland told me to "just let the string breathe" and lighten my grip. The difference was instant - my chords stopped buzzing and actually rang out clear for the first time. Has anyone else had that weird breakthrough moment where one tiny finger adjustment changed everything?

The second I read @cole_hall's post about pressure it clicked for me. I used to think skills were all about raw effort like you just had to PUSH harder until something worked. But in pottery class last year I was squeezing the clay so tight it kept collapsing, and the instructor showed me how the same principle applies with the ukulele. With both my uke and the clay, loosening my grip completely changed the sound and the feel. It's wild how fighting the thing actually makes it worse.

Is it weird how so much of life is just learning exactly how much pressure to apply? Like guitar strings, or even how hard you grip a pen or squeeze a stress ball, you kind of have to find that sweet spot where you're not fighting it anymore.
