TIL competitive duck herding is way harder than it looks on YouTube

I tried it for the first time last Saturday at a farm in Ohio. Thought I had it figured out after watching 10 minutes of videos. The ducks just laughed at me and went the opposite way for 45 minutes. My dog was more confused than I was. Has anyone else found a trick that actually works with stubborn ducks?

My buddy Dave tried it last fall with his border collie and we finally figured out you gotta walk slow and wide, not charge straight at them like the aussies do on YouTube. We spent a solid two hours getting nowhere till we realized the ducks just wanted a clear path to where we wanted them to go, not us chasing them. Once we blocked off the sides with our bodies and let them think they were choosing the direction, it worked way better... still took another 30 minutes though. It's kind of like herding cats but with more waddling and attitude.

Fair enough, but my experience says slow and steady just gives them more time to argue with you.
