Vent: my buddy called my matchstick models 'kind of a waste' and now I can't stop thinking about it
So I've been building tiny matchstick models for about 8 months now, mostly little ships and a lighthouse that took me 340 matches to finish. Nothing fancy, just me at the kitchen table with a glue bottle and a box cutter. Anyway, my buddy Dave came over Saturday to watch the game and saw my half-finished fishing boat on the counter. He looks at it for a second and goes 'doesn't seem like something that actually does anything, you know?' and then just moves on to talking about his fantasy league. It wasn't mean at all, he wasn't trying to be a jerk, but it got under my skin in a way I can't shake. I've spent probably $60 on matches and glue this year, and now I'm sitting here wondering if I'm just burning time on something pointless. The thing is, I actually really like the slow part where you have to get the angles right on the hull. Has anyone else had a hobby that a close friend or family member just didn't get? How do you handle it when someone kind of shrugs at something you care about?
