A retired mason told me 'the mud remembers every shortcut' while we were looking at a crumbling garden wall in his yard.

That phrase really stuck with me, making me think about the foundation work I rushed through on a patio job last month, so what's the one 'shortcut' you've seen come back to haunt a project later?

Man, that's such a true saying. It feels like it's about more than just construction, you know? I see it everywhere, like when people skip the small, boring steps to get to the fun part. They'll use the wrong cleaner on a surface because it's handy, and a year later the finish is totally ruined. The material always remembers what you did to it, good or bad.

Watched a friend skip the primer on a painted bookshelf, now the whole thing is peeling.
