Had to decide between Type N and Type S mortar for a retaining wall job in Portland last week

I was building a 4 foot tall retaining wall and the supplier talked me into Type N because it's more flexible with freeze-thaw cycles. Ended up using it and the wall went up smooth, but I'm worried about long-term strength compared to Type S. Any bricklayers here dealt with frost heave on walls using Type N mortar?

Play the long game with freeze thaw just like how old brick buildings breathe better than new ones.
