Laid a whole gable wall out of level by half a brick and had to tear it down at 4pm

Was working on a garage extension in Coventry last summer. Got chatting with the homeowner about his classic car collection and lost focus. Didn't check my string line after the third course. By the time I got to the top the whole thing was leaning like the tower of Pisa. Had to knock it all down and start again the next day. Cost me a full day's pay and a load of mortar. Anyone else ever had a slip like this cost you a full day?

Stopped trusting the string line alone and started using a level on every single brick for the first five courses. Saved me from having to redo an entire wall on a shed job last spring.
