Overheard a foreman say he never uses a level on short walls

I was on a site in Austin last week and this old foreman told a new guy not to bother with a level on any wall under 4 feet. Said his eye is good enough after 30 years. I tried it on a garden wall today and honestly it came out straight enough. Anyone else skip the level on small jobs?

Built a little retaining wall in my backyard last spring and didn't bother with a level on anything under 3 feet. Sometimes the bubbles on those cheap levels bounce around so much (especially after you drop one or two) that your eye is actually more reliable for small stuff.
