Serious question, 6 inch or 8 inch trowel for spreading mortar on block?

I went with the 8 inch for a garage job in Council Bluffs last month and my shoulder was sore by lunch, so now I'm wondering if the 6 inch would've been the smarter pick for long walls, what are you all running for block work?
