Spent 3 hours hunting for a level on a job site last month

Turned out one of the new guys had tossed it in a scrap pile thinking it was broken. Had to drive 45 minutes back to the shop for a replacement. Anyone else had tools go missing like that?

and honestly that kind of stuff happens way more than it should, especially when new guys don't know what they're looking at yet. ive had half my tape measures walk off cause folks thought they were freebies or something. gotta mark everything with your name or paint it bright orange so it stands out.

Yep, gotta mark everything or it walks. That tape measure thing you mentioned hits close to home. But honestly, this whole thing is part of a bigger problem I've noticed. People don't look at stuff with the same care they used to. It's like everyone's in such a rush they just grab something and toss it, not even stopping to see if it's useful or not. Even at home, I see people throwing away perfectly good tools or parts because they don't want to take the two seconds to figure out what they are. Makes me wonder if we're all just getting too lazy to stop and look at what's in front of us. What do you think drives that kind of carelessness?
