Bargain bin beef led to a kitchen catastrophe

I was so proud of myself for finding that cheap beef roast on clearance (figured it was perfect for a slow cooker meal). Got it home, seasoned it up, and let it cook all day. The smell was off from the start, but I told myself it was just the spices. When I went to shred it, the texture was all wrong, kind of rubbery. Tried a bite and immediately knew it was bad. Had to throw the whole thing out, which meant no dinner and wasted money on the roast and veggies. Now I'm stuck eating peanut butter sandwiches for the rest of the week. So much for saving cash, right?

Grabbed some marked-down chicken once that had a faint green glow under the kitchen lights. Convinced myself it was just the packaging reflection and seasoned it heavily. The resulting stew tasted like regret and pennies. My fridge still smells weird when I open the vegetable drawer.

Honestly though, was it definitely bad or just cooked weird? I've had cheap cuts come out tough and rubbery just from the slow cooker running too hot all day. That weird smell can sometimes be the bone or fat you don't usually get on pricier roasts. Maybe try it in the oven next time, low and slow with some broth.

Felt that chicken story in my soul. That penny taste is a sure sign it was bad. Fridge smells are a nightmare to get rid of.
