My $2 bag of lentils beat my $12 box of fancy pasta

I was dead set against lentils for years. Thought they were bland hippie food my sister tried to push on me. Last Tuesday I was broke after paying for a truck repair in Denver and had nothing but a bag of red lentils and some old spices. I threw them in a pot with cumin, garlic powder, and a squirt of sriracha and honestly it tasted better than half the meals I spend 20 bucks on. Has anyone else had a cheap staple surprise them like that?

The $2 bag of red lentils got me wondering - did the pasta actually taste good or were you just tired of the same old thing? I've definitely had those moments where the cheap stuff hits different because I was sick of fancy food.

Honestly, I feel this so much. Sometimes you just need that simple, cheap meal to remind you that food doesn't have to be complicated to hit the spot. It's like your brain gets tired of all the fancy flavors and just craves something basic that tastes like comfort.
