My chest freezer died in July and I fed 6 people chili for 9 days straight
The thing gave out on a Tuesday morning in Tulsa and I didn't notice for a full day, so I lost about $140 of frozen chicken and ground beef in one go. I panicked and cooked everything salvageable that same afternoon, which is how my neighbors ended up eating three pots of chili, two trays of baked ziti, and a weird amount of taco meat. My buddy Daryl took one look at my counter and asked if I was feeding a little league team. Now I'm trying to figure out what's actually worth keeping in a freezer if this happens again, so what do you all stock that survives a power outage or a dead compressor?
