My grandma's Depression-era potato soup recipe shocked me with how filling it is
I finally tried her 5-ingredient version last Tuesday with just potatoes, onions, broth, salt, and a little flour to thicken it, and a single bowl kept me full for 6 hours, has anyone else found that old-school poverty recipes actually beat modern ones for belly feel?

My grandmother had a similar recipe, except she added a slice of salt pork when she had it. The thing is, I remember her telling me about how during the war years, they'd stretch that pot with whatever wild greens she could find, dandelion leaves mostly. One time I tried to recreate it with kale from the store and it just was not the same. The dandelion gave it this bitter edge that made the potato taste sweeter somehow. Anyway, I ate that whole pot over a weekend and my stomach felt like it had bricks in it, but in a good way. There is something about that old cooking that just sits heavier in a person.
