My neighbor laughed at my $20 rice cooker method
I was bragging to my neighbor about making 5 meals for $12 using dried beans and rice, and she said I was missing the point of eating cheap. She told me she spends $8 a week on frozen veggies and canned tomatoes to actually make her budget meals taste good instead of just being cheap. Anybody here add stuff to their cheap staples or do you just eat the plain stuff to save more?

Wait hold on, lmao. She spends $8 a week on frozen veggies and canned tomatoes? That's basically nothing, how is that "missing the point"? I just throw a bag of frozen mixed veggies into my rice cooker with the beans and it makes everything way less boring. I can't imagine eating plain rice and beans every day without anything else, that sounds miserable. Honestly her method sounds smarter because you're still saving a ton but actually enjoying your food. Plain cheap staples will make you hate eating and then you'll just end up ordering takeout anyway.

@lucasking I feel you on that, man. Like yeah, $8 a week on frozen veggies is nothing compared to what you'd drop on takeout after eating sad beans and rice for a week. I do the same thing, just toss a bag of broccoli and carrots in with everything. Makes it way easier to stick with cheap meals without wanting to cry into your bowl.
