My rice cooker gave out mid-week and I had to figure out stovetop rice in 15 minutes

The lid literally popped off on Tuesday while I was trying to make a $4 batch of beans and rice for lunches, so I grabbed my smallest pot and guessed the water ratio, and honestly the texture was better than the machine ever gave me... has anyone else had a cheap appliance fail and end up saving you money in the long run?

Grabbed a cheap coffee maker from the thrift store once and it died after a week, so I switched to a French press and realized I actually like coffee better that way. Now I'm kind of glad the cheap thing broke, since it forced me to try something new. Maybe it's just me but sometimes a broken appliance is secretly a favor.

My rice ended up so fluffy I almost threw the rice cooker away myself.
