My slow cooker died right as the beans were finally softening

Last Tuesday I had a pot of pinto beans going for 6 hours, then the whole thing just clicked off and went cold. I had to finish them on the stove, which took another 2 hours and made the kitchen feel like a sauna. Anyone else had a trusty appliance quit at the worst possible moment, or am I just cursed with bad timing?

Mine decided to die mid-chili right before a party once, so I feel your pain. Turns out my backup plan was a microwave and a dream, which worked about as well as you'd think. At least your beans got to finish, mine ended up more like spicy soup with a complex about it.
