The $3 bag of lentils that proved meal prep snobs wrong
I spent years buying those pre chopped veggie trays and frozen rice packs because I thought I was too busy to cook from scratch. Last Tuesday I was broke with $11 left until payday and grabbed a bag of dried lentils for $3.49. Realized I'd been paying $6 for a single serving of seasoned lentils in a microwave pouch the whole time. The dry ones took 25 minutes and tasted better. My buddy Tim who does those fancy sous vide meal preps laughed at me until I showed him the math, $0.62 per serving vs his $4.20. Now I'm side eyeing every convenience food in my pantry. Anyone else have that moment where you found out basic ingredients were the real budget hack all along? What else am I sleeping on besides rice and beans?
