Booked a bus in Vietnam that saved $12 and lost me a full day
I found this local bus company in Hanoi that was way cheaper than the tourist buses for the ride to Sapa. Saved 12 dollars which felt like a win at first. The bus broke down twice in the mountains and the driver didn't speak English at all. We sat on the side of the road for 5 hours while he tried to fix it with string and duct tape. Got into Sapa at 2 AM instead of the planned 6 PM. The hostel I booked had already given my bed away. Just a heads up if you're trying to save a few bucks on transport in Southeast Asia, the extra cost for a reputable company might be worth it. Has anyone else had a cheap bus ride turn into a nightmare?

Lol I once took a "$2 overnight bus" in Laos and the thing literally caught on fire at a rest stop. Ended up hitchhiking the last 60 miles on the back of a pickup truck full of chickens.
