Compared hostels in Lisbon vs Porto for a week and Porto's private rooms won every time

So I did a 10 day trip through Portugal last month. Lisbon hostels were like $35 a night for a dorm bed with 8 people snoring. Porto I found this spot called The Independente near the tower, private room with a real door and lock, $42 a night. For 7 bucks more I got actual sleep, my own bathroom key, and could leave my charger plugged in without worrying. The Lisbon place had a cool rooftop bar but I was too tired to enjoy it. Has anyone else found a city where cheap private rooms beat the hostel dorms by a small margin?

actually read somewhere that those old dorm setups teach you how to deal with different people and weird schedules, which is lowkey useful later. kinda wild how much you learn just from sharing a tiny room with a stranger.
