Compared hostels vs. camping on a 2-week trip through Portugal and camping won by a mile
Last summer I spent 14 days hitting Lisbon to Porto. Booked hostels for the first week at 30 euros a night each. Second week I pitched a tent near surf spots for 5 euros a night at campsites. The hostels had noisy rooms and I got zero sleep. Camping was quiet, I cooked my own cheap meals, and woke up to the ocean. Anyone else ditch hostels for a tent on longer trips?

Wait, you actually found campsites in Portugal for five euros a night?

Yeah, I was pretty skeptical about it at first too. I thought anything under ten euros had to be a total dump or some scam listing. But I tried one out near the Algarve coast and honestly, it was basic but fine. Just a flat spot for a tent and shared bathrooms, nothing fancy. For five euros I wasn't expecting much, but it was clean enough and quiet. Totally changed how I look at budget travel posts now.
