I finally had the worst travel day of my life in Bangkok

I tried to save $10 by taking a random local bus to the airport, ended up stuck in standstill traffic for 3 hours. Missed my flight and had to pay $200 for a new one. Has anyone else tried to penny-pinch a bus ride and totally regretted it?

Might want to double-check that math - Bangkok local buses are usually under 50 baht, not $10. Still sucks missing a flight though.

Plus the airport bus from Mo Chit is like 60 baht.

Totally agree, 60 baht is crazy cheap for that. The airport bus is a steal compared to the BTS/cab combo lol. Had a similar close call once and it's just the worst feeling watching the last bus pull away.
