I finally picked hostels over motels for a week in Denver

I did 3 nights in a cheap motel and 4 in a hostel for the same $280 total, and the hostel gave me free breakfast and a solid crew to split gas with for Rocky Mountain day trips. Anybody else find that shared spaces actually save you more than private budget rooms?

$280 total for a week? That's under forty bucks a night. I didn't think that was possible anymore, especially in Denver. The free breakfast alone would've sold me, I spend way too much on coffee and a muffin every morning. Bet the hostel crew was a lifesaver for those mountain trips too, gas prices are brutal solo.

Free breakfast alone" is a dangerous game, I'd eat like 4 muffins to make sure I got my money's worth and then crash from the sugar high by noon. But yeah, splitting gas with hostel people is the real hack, last time I tried to drive to the mountains solo I spent more on fuel than the actual hike. Saves you from being the weirdo eating a gas station sandwich alone in your car too.
