I overhead a guy at the Denver airport saying hostels are for kids and it got me thinking

I was waiting for my flight last week and this guy in his 50s told his friend hostels are only for college students. He said he would never share a room with strangers again. But I have stayed in over 30 hostels in the past 5 years and saved a ton of money. Most of them have private rooms now for way less than a hotel. Has anyone else found good private rooms at hostels in the US or Europe that work for older travelers?

omg yes private rooms are such a game changer. it's like once you hit your 40s you just realize you don't need to be socializing with strangers after 10pm, you need a quiet space with a locked door. i've noticed this same thing with airbnbs too, people our age are basically paying extra for a place that feels like a real home but without the hotel markup. it's wild how the whole "roughing it" travel thing just loses its charm once you've had to share a bathroom with twenty backpackers in your 30s.
