Just realized everyone obsesses over flight deals and ignores the real budget killer
People keep telling me to use incognito mode and track prices for flights, but that's maybe saving you $50. The real money pit is food and transport at your destination. I went to Lisbon last fall and saw families dropping 30 euros a day just on cabs from their cheap hotel to the city center. I got a 7-day transit pass for 40 euros total and walked a ton. Same with food, everyone runs to the tourist square for a 15 euro sandwich. Walk three blocks away and it's 5 euros. I saved more in one week by not using taxis and eating where locals do than I ever have on a flight deal. Has anyone else found that focusing on daily costs once you're there is the actual game changer?

Game changer" is just shifting the stress to your vacation.

Yeah that "shifting the stress" thing from @elliotjenkins is so real. It's like you spend the whole week before a trip working crazy hours just to clear your desk, so you're already burnt out. Then you're checking emails on the beach, worried about what's piling up. You come back to a mountain of work and need another vacation to recover from your vacation. It feels broken.
