My cousin's friend works for an airline and dropped this gem on me
I was at a family BBQ last weekend and my cousin's friend who works for a budget airline started talking about flight pricing. She said if you book exactly 54 days before a domestic flight, you almost always get the lowest price. I thought she was joking but she showed me their internal data charts. Apparently the algorithm drops rates at that mark before bumping them back up closer to the date. I've been testing it this month and booked a round trip to Austin for $89 that was $140 on other days. Has anyone else heard of this specific window or is it just this one airline doing it?

Works for some airlines but not others. Southwest doesn't follow that pattern at all, their prices bounce around random. Checked it once with a flight I was watching for 3 months, the 54 day mark was actually higher than other days.

Maybe the 54 day tip works best for flights you actually need to book ahead for.
