Talked to a hostel owner in Prague who said booking 3 months ahead is actually the worst move for cheap beds
She told me last-minute cancellations mean they drop prices 40% two days before, so now I just gamble and wait - has anyone else had luck with that strategy or am I asking for a sidewalk nap?

Yeah waiting two days out has saved me some cash before. Did it in Barcelona and got a bed for like half the normal rate. Just make sure you have a backup plan in case they fill up.

Man it's funny how that same mindset works for so many things besides just travel. I've noticed the same deal with booking restaurant reservations or even buying tools - everyone panics and grabs stuff early but the real deals show up when you hold your nerve a little. Just gotta be okay with walking away empty handed sometimes.
